While the 2012 Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger will both be featuring eight-speed transmissions, the Ram franchise is about to take its pickups to the next level, dropping the ageing four-speed autoboxes.

The Ram 1500 powered by the 4.7-litre V6 and 5.7-litre HEMI as well as the 2012 Heavy Duty variants will thus be inheriting a new six-speed system, featuring an Electronic Range Select manual mode that allows the driver to choose a particular gear in a given situation.
Buyers opting for the Ram 1500 with 3.7-litre V6 will have to make due with the four-speed transmission though, which will likely be retired in the near future.
